Hot Dog Vosis: A Smoky Plant-Based Sausage
What sets a hot dog sausage apart is its long, slim shape and that smoky aroma. Ours builds its body from tofu with chickpea and oat flour; wheat gluten gives it the firm skin that snaps when you bite. Nutritional yeast adds savoury depth, and the smoke flavouring brings the classic aroma you will recognise the moment it goes into the bun.
In short: the hot dog you remember from the street cart, without the animal ingredients.
How to Make a Vegan Hot Dog
Cook the sausage first, then prepare the bun — the order matters, because a hot sausage is at its best inside a warm bun.
- Peel the casing, then cook: The product is pre-cooked. Peel off the casing, add a little oil to the pan and cook over low heat, turning as you go. On a barbecue, use the cooler part of the coals — the grill really brings the smoky aroma forward.
- Warm the bun: Split a sesame hot dog bun and toast the cut side in a dry pan for a few seconds. This stops the bread going soggy under the sauce.
- Build the top: The classic build: mustard, ketchup, chopped red onion and pickle slices. Parsley or spring onion on top works beautifully too.
You can also slice it into menemen, pasta sauces or a breakfast plate — the hot dog is not its only use. For more ideas, take a look at our recipes page.
